Rowden has been named as part of the first wave of industry partners to the UK Government’s new Rapid AI Delivery Taskforce, known as Taskforce RAID.

Announced by the Prime Minister and Defence Secretary, Taskforce RAID has been established to accelerate the deployment of robust AI-enabled tools into the hands of Britain’s Armed Forces. The taskforce will focus on delivering operational capability at pace, helping personnel make faster decisions, plan more effectively, and reduce risk to human life through the responsible use of AI and autonomy.

The Ministry of Defence confirmed that the taskforce will work with the British technology sector to access a broader market, support UK SMEs, and strengthen sovereign capability. Rowden is part of the first wave of partners to the taskforce, bringing experience in mission-critical systems engineering, advanced computing and AI-enabled capability for edge environments.

Many of the AI capabilities being developed for national resilience will need to operate beyond centralised enterprise infrastructure. Rowden’s work focuses on integrating software, hardware, sensing and communications technologies into systems that can be deployed, assured and sustained in operational use, including environments where connectivity is degraded, intermittent or denied.

In these settings, AI-enabled systems must be able to process data close to the point of need, support decision-making under operational constraints, and remain manageable across distributed fleets of devices. This places different demands on design and delivery, requiring secure infrastructure, modular architectures, edge device management and clear assurance processes to be built in from the outset.

Taskforce RAID will initially focus on a small number of high-impact operational problems, including AI systems that can process intelligence data quickly to support decision-making and predictive analysis, as well as tools that can support military planning at the pace required in modern operations.
